HELPFUL INFORMATION

           Taxi
In Bangkok, taxis can be hailed anywhere. All Bangkok
taxis are metered and air-conditioned. The red-lit sign
in the windscreen indicates service availability. Not
many drivers speak English, but many have a radio
connection to an English-language speaker. It is
advisable to ask your hotel to write your destination
in Thai and to carry a hotel card. Be sure that your
taxi driver turns on the meter at the beginning of your
journey. The fare starts at B35. It is also possible to
phone and make reservations for taxis. There is a B20
           fee for this service.
Outside of Bangkok, only major tourism destinations
have metered taxis, but they are not always plentiful.
A car and driver hire service is available in most major
hotels. Many of the hotels provide shuttle services to
           popular destinations.

           Riverboat
Travelling by boat along the Chao Phraya River is the
most pleasant way to get around Bangkok. The Chao
Phraya Express Boat operates four lines of boats with
stops at some of Bangkok’s main attractions. These
cost B10–32. The Chao Phraya Tourist Boat by the
same operator stops only at touristic destinations, has
an English-language audio guide onboard and costs
B150. The Sathorn Pier has an interchange at Saphan
           Taksin BTS Skytrain station.
           Tuk-tuk
These colourful three-wheelers can be found in most
tourist areas and can accommodate an impressive
number of passengers and carry big loads. They
mostly only accept short journeys. Negotiate on the
fare before you get in, as there is no meter or
           fixed charge.
