Public Holidays
There are usually 16 public holidays in a year,
but more may be declared by the government.
Since Buddhism is the predominant religion,
the majority of traditional holidays are based
on Buddhist culture and beliefs. The religious
festivals are determined by the Buddhist lunar
calendar, and therefore the dates vary each
year. If a holiday falls on a weekend, one
following workday is observed by the
government as a compensatory holiday.
